Fashion and Philanthropy Intersect on the Runway

Chicago, IL – In 2009, Whole Foods Market® challenged fashion design students from The Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago to create beautiful garments using the store’s FEED 100 bags in an effort to draw attention to the FEED 100 program which provides children in Rwanda with nourishing meals. On March 10, those designs will come to life on the runway at the fifth annual Fashion and Media Extravaganza (FAME).
Students eagerly took on the challenge and created stylish dresses, pants, jackets and accessories from the FEED 100 organic cotton and natural burlap reusable shopping bags.
The FEED 100 bag was inspired by a desire to take better care of children around the world. It is sold for $29.99 at Whole Foods Market. Each sale provides 100 meals to hungry school age children in Rwanda through the United Nation’s World Food Program – School Feeding Program.
FAME 2010 is a showcase of the top work in fashion, design, filmmaking and animation by students at The Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago. The March 10 event will be held at Harris Theater for Music and Dance – 205 E. Randolph – in Chicago’s Millennium Park. The day show is at noon; the night show begins at 6 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the Harris Theater Box Office, www.harristheaterchicago.org.
